Bright Kids, Bright Futures

I have recently had the opportunity to read two articles about the One Laptop Per Child program and I have to say it is one of the greatest programs of which I have heard. As the name implies its goal is to get one laptop to each child, specifically the 100,000,000 kids that don't make it even as far as first grade. Being a tutor myself and being deeply interesting in the furthering of education, the realization that so many children go without education is immensely saddening. The impact that just leaving the computers there with no instructions however was astounding and inspired great hope for the future. It is important for everyone to receive an education, even in poorer lands like Ethiopia. An education and an interest in learning will open up the new ways of thinking of new and better ways of doing what they are doing. It will also open up opportunities for these children and their families based on the articles mention that children often teach their parents what they have learned. I would like to help program in some way, but I am not sure how I can contribute to something that is so effective with so little input. This a wonderful project and I hope it can see its full potential reached.
